Happiness is...

... nobody sitting in front of you on a plane; your own television, complete with Meryl Streep movies on demand; free champagne; Crocantelle; and pretending to be French for seven hours more.

Partout

Permanent

I spent a whole afternoon browsing the permanent collection at Musée D'Orsay.

It's an old train station.

Some of my favorites, photographed entirely without permission.

There were even paintings that look like sculptures.

I learned about the Symbolist movement, a new favorite era for me to love, with gorgeous, rich colors and a dreamy boldness, influencing the Art Nouveau movement.

And let's not forget les arts decoratifs, full of opulence and splendor.

Tout simplement splendide.

Afternoon In Montmartre

Yes, I went to the Louvre, the Musée D'Orsay, the Eiffel Tower, Champs Élysées, Giverny, and all of that. But the one really dorky touristy thing I did, and geeked out over, was this.

Lunch at Café Des Deux Moulins, the restaurant in "Amelie" where Mlle. Poulain worked.

And had a Croque Madame.

It was my last Friday there, and I was feeling sentimental, and couldn't resist. The sun was brutal that day, but the experience was lovely.

And then I followed it up by meandering rather randomly over to Au Marche De La Butte, also from the movie.

But I continued on my merry way and found lots of other gems in the neighborhood of steep hills and white walls.

Go on, Superstar.
